The 2022 film Studio Design 5.5 tells the story of a collective global design studio founded in August 2003. This happened after four friends graduated from the National Higher School of Applied Arts. Their strategy is to gather diverse ideas to create the perfect design. The collective has remained active over the years.

The core of the Design 5.5 studio consists of Vincent Barange, his classmates Jean-Sébastien Blanc and Anthony Lebosse, as well as Claire Renard, who joined the male-dominated team. Their first project was Reanime: La medicine des object. That was the beginning, but other works followed, marked as iconic, which subsequently defined the team’s future direction.

Among the notable works featured in the film Studio Design 5.5 are Objects ordinaries and Ouvriers-Designers for the Bernardaud Corporate Foundation. With their emergence, the team gained a reputation as troublemakers in the field of furniture design; at times, they were compared to a homing missile in the industry.

They gained recognition and developed their talents during a period of creative euphoria. It was marked by experimentation as well as design in all directions. They managed to meet with outstanding masters, and as a result, their works found a place in the best museums. Sometimes the duo produced items anonymously, which allowed them to leave their mark on both mass-produced goods and premium masterpieces.

Over time, the team evolved into a full-fledged studio. The professionals behind it had a wide range of experience, which enabled them to serve a diverse client base. At the same time, they maintained their approach to developing and implementing designs for a broad target audience.
